Amy's Visit
Plus some random pictures of helicopters (CH-53E's, looks like) on the drive to Carlsbad, lunch at Santouka Ramen in Torrance, and then the Dangling Bruin at UCLA.
Met up with Amy and Nik on Monday at Hurry Curry, then Vanessa (Nessie) joined us. Pearl came late, and we somehow hit Volcano Tea twice that night. *grins*
Santouka has awesome ramen, although I prefer the style they serve at Hakata more, but awesome nonetheless. Broth did have some hot and cold spots that others have mentioned, very odd. Reminded me a bit of the brown "Halu" ramen at Ramen Halu in San Jose, only Santouka is about 10,000 times more tasty.
A handful of pics from the Dangling Bruin at UCLA-- but none during the competition itself. Too busy competing. It was constantly packed, so the camera stayed in the bag til the competition was over. Did two V0's, two V1's, one V2, and ALMOST got a 5.10a/b. Really should have gotten it, but endurance after 2.5 hours clearly isn't there anymore. In fact, the 5.10a/b on rope #1 would be conquered on the next visit, as well as the 5.10c/d on rope #7 (?) and one other...
Didn't win anything, but that's okay. Competition was fierce. A V3 buried on the right corner of the stemming wall looked really cool as well, a bunch of girls who clearly have more skill and better balance than I do never did quite make it... plus there's a bunch of other good looking climbs.
