South Korea/China: Nanjing
Various sights in Nanjing; the market and shrines SE of the city center, the National Palace buildings where Chiang Kai-shek ruled for some time, the massive south gate of Nanjing's ancient City Wall, and a Germany-China festival we randomly encountered near the National Palace and the Nanjing Library.
John took us to dim sum in the morning before he ran off to take care of wedding things, we had some familiar items and some unfamiliar ones, such as whole duck heads and duck blood. The stinky tofu was also a little different than normal. Risking our stomachs for pearl tea and grass jelly drinks turned out to be delicious (and digestive-system friendly, luckily!). Quite a bit of wandering gardens and shrines in the area (if I knew the names in English, I'd list them!), lunch at a mall food court of spicy noodles, then off towards the Nanjing Library, National Palace, and the Germany-China festival next door to the library.
We thought we'd be back early enough for dinner, but it turns out 7:30pm was almost too late. We were able to find a Japanese curry place open so we didn't have to eat more KFC... *whew*
