Oktoberfest, sort of
Alpine Village in Torrance puts on their version of Oktoberfest every year. Maybe I went at a better time last year, but this year really wasn't all that interesting. No musicians dancing on the tables, and aside from speakers on the stage, I heard only zwei Leute sprechen auf Deutsch. Two people! That's it! Sad! The usual cafeteria-style service for bratwurst, knockwurst, and the like was about as good as last year-- edible and necessary to help stay sober. *grins*
It also started raining a few minutes after we got there. The sprinkles weren't too bad, and the food line was short because it was 10pm by the time we got there, but then it started to pour*. Doh. We were there with a bunch of Pearl's coworkers, and we fled to a dry place afterwards-- for sushi.
* = really a moderate shower, but hey, this is Los Angeles. Drenching buckets by Hawaii or Manhattan standards don't happen here, if they did, the whole city would wash away. =þ
Once we found the sushi place, deep in south Torrance in the massive AMC Rolling Hills 20 plaza, it was actually very good. The sashimi was delicious for the money. How I somehow missed this place on previous searches for good sushi in the Torrance area, I'm not sure. It is pretty far out of my way and it isn't worth extreme heaps of praise, but it was definitely tasty.
