Justin's Visit, Day 3: Ferraris at the Petersen
While Day 2 of Justin's visit is at the Japanese Classic Car Show all day, day 3 is a little bit more family-friendly. After breakfast at Mani's Bakery on Fairfax, we meet up with Randy & family again, then head to the Petersen Automotive Musuem. Tons of cool cars there, from Speedracer and Batman to the Ford GT to Herbie to the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 to early race cars and 50's era cruisers to the feature exhibit: Ferrari.
Stopped at what has to be one of the last remaining Sizzler's in operation for lunch, then to the Ferrari's.
The size of the exhibit was modest-- small enough to take in all in a single sweep around the room, yet large enough that it was packed with quite a bit of classic hardware. The Ferrari SuperAmerica first seen at the Los Angeles Autoshow 2005, the Ferrari F40 and Ferrari F50, and an assortment of other modern hardware. Earlier items-- the Ferrari 212/224 Barchetta, Ferrari 275 GTB/4, Ferrari Daytona, etc. etc. were even better represented.
Quite simply, it was awesome. Justin probably has even better prices, as lighting was just inadequate for pictures without a flash at f/2.8, while he could go down to f/1.8 with his primes.
We explored most of the museum, including the large Microcars exhibit. Being able to see some of these cars in the flesh was amazing-- little post-WW2 companies that didn't exist 5 or 10 years later still have a few vehicles in collections across the world. We also ran into some apparent microcar enthusiasts there trying to make a business of it; time will tell if they get anywhere...
