Kwik-E-Mart!! and food...
It turns out the 7-11 converted to a Kwik-E-Mart in Los Angeles is right off the stretch of 405 that we frequent. The random opening night sighting we had was almost a given. Pearl and Julie promptly ran over for Krusty-Os and Buzz Cola. The lines outside were adding up, and got huge in following days. Looks like we had good timing with our random sighting! The conversion inside was mostly for looks-- but they hit all the high points. Donuts, "buy 3 for the price of 3", squishes, Buzz Cola, etc. Everything except Duff Beer, which was said to be "not family friendly". On the way home, Joel and others starting forwarding us the news reports from CNN and other sites. *grins*
Dim sum was earlier that day, at Sea World Seafood in Rosemead. We basically ate twice-- Carley, Pearl, and Julie all showed up on time, then Steve and Simon were 45 minutes late. Holy crap, but that just meant more time for eating. For cheap dim sum, this is one of the places to come. $1.60 a dish... wow. For good dim sum, go elsewhere. Some days, $1.60 a dish speaks volumes!
Dinner (before Kwik-E-Mart) was sushi up in Studio city at Midori, which is a pretty good all you can eat place. We did a very good job eating ourselves silly. The salmon and mackeral for an AYCE place were pretty good, although the seared tuna was too spicy (!). The uni, as expected, was so-so.
Walking out of Midori Sushi, we went for a little walk... right past a McDonalds advertising third-of-a-pound Angus burgers. Julie pointed this out, then all three of us EXPLODED with laughter. Painful laughter than our full bellies could barely withstand. The ppppaaaaaaiiiiiinnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!! Julie, please do not do that EVER again when our stomachs are all about to explode!!!
