UCLA Run/Walk 5K + Carley's Graduation
UCLA Run/Walk 5K for the UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital. Alberto, Sam, Bethany, and I ran it, plus two other friends. Did pretty decently for my first actual race, finished in 24:20 or so. Albert and Bethany were ahead-- probably somewhere in the 23's, which isn't bad for the 3.17 miles this race was supposed to be. (mapping it out says 3.4 miles?) The entertainment was cheesy as expected, with a Pirate theme these year, including an actor playing Captain Jack Black, but there was tons of food, including powerbars, Vitamin Water, BJ's pizza, and snowcones. Mmmm.
Carley's graduation from Loyola Law School was that afternoon. The sun finally peeked out from the clouds, which was not exactly expected. Sat through some decent speeches, although no one I talked to recognized the speakers. Oops. Carley somehow made it out before everyone lined up to take a few pictures and give her broken camera back to her sister, swapping cameras... while Sophia and Petula stealthily wrapped up the group's graduation gift to Carley-- a new camera-- as the ceremony went on. Talk about impeccable timing. =D
We had a bit of trouble sorting out Carley from the 600 other graduates present at the end of the ceremony, especially since almost everyone was new to the Loyola campus. Snapped a few pictures, then off to a buffet dinner after Carley returned her cap and gown.
While I was dumb enough to eat over a pound of raw fish, I was not brave or dumb enough to eat the raw oysters. Raw oysters at a low-cost buffet can not possibly be a good idea..
