Thanksgiving 2006
Thanksgiving day was a 20lb+ smoked turkey (yum!!!!), sticky rice, green salad, sweet potatos, green beans, homemade cranberry sauce, cranberry jello, creme caramel, and lots of family!
The Saturday afterwards was a 23lb turkey (yum!!) with sausage stuffing (yum!!!!), pork ribs (yum!!!!), baked salmon cakes, mashed potatos, sweet potatos and yams, green salad, green beans, two homemade apple pies, homemade berry pie, creme caramel, and half family, half friends. (well 2nd family =P )
And the usual for me, far too much driving. While I did far too much driving in the Bay Area, at least I didn't have to drive to Sacramento. It's a good thing too, since we brought the rabbits with us, and they would never have fit in anything but the minivan. Thanksgiving dinner was at the Yee's, with both sides of the family present-- most of my mom/aunt's side including grandma, plus some of uncle's family, including Warren and his new wife, and Wesley.
Unlike last year, I skipped Black Friday this year, due to the absence of really good deals that I was interested in. TV shoppers and cheap laptop seekers had a nice selection, but not so much for other stuff. 75% off a USB flash drive is nice, but when that's only $25 and you have to wait outside for 4 hours in 32F weather... meh. Tempting, yes, but not that tempting.
Friday was driving back home from visiting relatives, then the once-a-year-meeting (dinner) with Independence High School c/o `98 grads. Kim's original e-mail had 4 people on it; imagine my surprise when I was the first one to Buca di Beppo and then being told to get a table for 10! Met up with Barry, Barry's GF Kim, and Diana afterwards for drinks-- "accidentially" dragged a few people from dinner with me, since they didn't have any plans. Both Barry and Diana went to IHS anyway, so it wasn't too weird. We did lose Diana repeatedly at v-bar as it seems like she knew half the people there, but when it came time to do karaoke afterwards, we found her before she wandered off again!
Dinner was with Kim, Binh, Justin, Karen + fiance, Rikki + BF, Winston, Holly, and myself. Lawrence and his girlfriend dropped by for a bit, and at V-bar we caught Hien and her BF...
Saturday morning was at Dynasty Seafood on Story Road for a Ars meet with .milFox, Dragondazd, Akatombo, AgentHH, Suthendale, doraemon, blargh, usagichan, and a few others. Paul Bartz had just gotten off the airplane from Colorado and decided to show up at the end of the meal, and somehow we lost iko. We devoured everything in 30 minutes. Amazing. =D We even got away from Dynasty for $15 a person, which isn't bad for reasonably-decent dim sum in the Bay Area.
Dinner with Erik's family afterwards, then before and after, hanging out with Majed-- more like rescuing him after he locked himself out of his car at Oakridge mall-- and general wandering to the usual places, such as Coffee Society in Campbell and Erik (who was STILL hungry!!)'s favorite place, Pizza My Heart. (Majed's friend Reem gets credit for the pizza picture). Also, for the record, Sherman did not steal anyone's food at Thanksgiving this year.
