Rock climbing @ Malibu Creek
It's a bit of a hike, but Malibu Creek is an awesome area to go rock climbing. Don't get wet and fall in the creek as you traverse the 5.0 to get to the main climbing areas, though.
Fun times, although with just Bill and myself, lacking a third person to take pictures makes it difficult.
Did one awesome 5.8, but it was very pumpy-- do a move, reaaaach up to a solid hold, rinse and repeat for 8 bolts' worth. It feels solid when you actually grab the hold, but by the fourth bolt you've do so much reaching and grabbing that you're shaking by the time you top out.
We got there onto the rocks by 8:30am or 9am, it was about 15-20 minutes til we saw some other climbers, and maybe another 20-30 minutes after that that people really began to show up. Excellent. *grins* The shade in the grotto helped, too. Nothing like climbing where it's nice and cool!
Tried another climb later that supposedly had 4 bolts, but in reality it only had two. The bottom was challenging and vertical (5.9, I think), then the top looked pretty easy... very easy... but we climbed 10 feet or so past the 2nd bolt and didn't see another one. Not cool.
Especially remembering my little 20' fall back in June. Umm. Yeah.
So, fun area for climbing, we just needed a little more experience to be able to do some of the 5.10a's and 5.10b's that looked sweet, plus a little more confidence on some of the 5.9's. No offense to whoever thinks doing a 30' or 40' run-out is a good idea, but I happen to disagree.
