Joycelyn's Birthday
Dinner at Fred 62 in Los Feliz, then a few blocks over to Derby for swing dancing.
In attendance... the birthday girl- Joycelyn- Melissa, Jason, Payal, Bej, Carley, Sophia, Angela, Margaret, Liz, Jasimine and James, and probably a few others-- she had a pretty large group!
Fred 62 is a 60's atmosphere diner that actually makes pretty good food, particularly when you're 8 people crammed into a booth! Amazing, all food was eaten and no elbows were too badly jostled.
The Derby is an old Hollywood-era building that's been restored to its original condition and is very pretty inside. Swing dance nights seem to begin with lessons for continually incompetent newbies such as myself, while a live band performed in the main room with its smaller dance floor for those who actually know how to swing dance.
Carley, Sophia, Jasmine, James, Angela, Bej, and the rest of the experts looked pretty good out there. Some still go every week or more, but I doubt you tell the difference between them. The rest of us sort of hid in the crowd or in the corners and tried not to step on any toes or crash into anyone else on the dance floor. Success was... moderate.
Sometime during the night, Joycelyn and her coworkers vanished. =( Something about work early the next day; I have no idea how they vanished without me noticing, hence the lack of pictures...
By the end of the night the crowd had gotten noticably smaller, small enough that we ended up in the main room watching the band and doing a bit of swing dancing on the main dance floor.
