Franz Ferdinand, Cal vs. UCLA, Heather's Birthday
First few pictures are from Franz Ferdinand at the Greek Theater with Joycelyn, Bill, and Sophia. Excellent show. FF is maturing nicely as a band, much better than The Killers are progressing. Stuff off the new album is not quite up to the standards of the first album, but their ability to deliver a show is improving nicely. The Greek is also a beautiful venue! Due to the distance of our seats and the lack of cover, pictures are lousy. No real changes to the songs, but they're still new, they'll mature. We hope! (sorry, no pics from The Killers... no cameras allowed in.)
Cal vs. UCLA at the Rosebowl. What an unbelieveable experience.
Rose Bowl is almost sold out.... a hair over 84,000 in attendance. 30 minutes before the game, the student section is sold out. Alicia and I get there a bit late, and find out (as Dave and Amit did earlier) that the only tickets left are US$40 reserved seats. Well, we're here to see the game... so... sure! Ended up being an amazing game. UCLA's rush defense stinks, and Cal let us know it. Cal was ranked well ahead of us, and we expected a good game regardless: to be there as we pulled off a win was damned good. Unfortunately our opponents are continuing to let us know that our rush defense sucks, but we'll see how things go the rest of the season. The good news is, our team is capable of waking up and playing well. The key is playing well as a team long enough to kick some butt. We just barely did it this time!
Sophia, Bej, Mike, Emily, Tara, Heather, and others were also at the game, but we never did meet up with them. Cell phone reception was a nightmare and we didn't hear from Sophia until the end of the third quarter. We looked at the 2,000 people we'd have to cross to get to them and gave up. =P
Finally, after the game was Heather's birthday. Original plan was find a place like Buca di Beppo and do dinner for the dozen of us. Reality... the game was 4:30pm to 8:30pm, most places were full, so we ended up at Hooter's in old town Pasadena. Her choice, not anyone else's. No one was complaining, although it was past Alicia's bedtime!
Erik (sp?), Mary, Bej, Brooke, Tara, Mike, Emily, Sophia, Alicia, and I all made it to Heather's birthday. Fun!
