Rock climbing at Point Dume
Bill and Brian headed out to Point Dume to do some top roping over the first weekend in October. We didn't realize that a local karate school was doing black belt testing up two of the five routes on Point Dume, leaving us just two routes to climb. (we don't yet have the skills to sport climb a 5.9 yet...)
Short and simple trip. Point Dume is full of tiny cracks and chips in the rock, leaving tons of tiny holds everywhere. As someone who dislikes small holds, it was not the most fun time. Still... we were doing a 5.7 and a 5.8, and I was quite pleased with how well I did at the end of the day. Trust in feet, and realizing that on some surfaces, your feet stick better than your hands do... definitely a learning experience, and nothing at all like Stoney Point's soft sandstone.
Anchors and bolting in at Point Dume aren't bad, although we saw some sketchy ones, too.
Point Dume itself is connected to Zuma Beach in Malibu, a place we used to frequent!
Random food pictures at the end are from dinner with other friends the next day, at Sunni over in Westwood.
