Sophia's Birthday aka, a potluck. We haven't had one of those in a long time! =) This time it was at Grace's place, which held the fifteen-odd people fairly well, plus there were nice trees outside for the pinata that Bill brought. That stopped quite a bit of traffic, too, as people wondered why a bunch of (looked-like)-college-age kids were outside whacking a pinata for 30 minutes. We had a broom at first, which left the pinata mostly unscathed after 10 minutes of Sophia beating on it. Switching to the golf club ensured the prompt demolition of the pinata, first by Sophia, then by Jianhui and then Thomas. We liberated the haw flakes, Nerds, and all kinds of other candy we'd just put in there an hour ago. hee hee hee hee hee! Most of the usual folks were around, plus a few faces that I hadn't seen too often (if at all) before. Imagine the core being the old group from the UCLA potlucks, sprinkled liberally with new faces from the last 18 months or so. Grace & Kevin, Carley, Annie & her boyfriend, Bill, Meghna & her husband, Doug (from RSS), Bej, and some other names I can't remember... Food was delicious as usual. It was also a little odd as usual, as we expect from potlucks. Carley's quesdilas, Thomas' baked salmon, Justin's butternut squash, Meghna's daal, Grace's cookies, Bill's homemade salsa... yum. We also cracked open a few beers, a (almost?) major first for a potluck. Games were an evolution of the usual. Instead of Cranium, it was Cranium Conga. Instead of Taboo, it was a simplified-but-very-similar game with an electronic thingy. A new game was "Falling"-- a rather, uh, odd, card game. And from one half of Sophia's friends, of course, Texas Hold'em was present. Without the usual Hold'em fiends there (and with a semi-pro present from the OTHER half of Sophia's friends) it was a little different. Let's just say I didn't lose any money, and... er... uhh... leave it at that, 'cause I clearly didn't win either! Side note: first four pictures are from dinner with Dave Hackett, his brother, his roommate Eddie, and his friends Lee and Jessica the previous night... NOT the potluck.
