Strawberry Meadow Off Angeles Crest Highway in La Canada Flintridge... go to the last parking lot/picnic area before where the road is (presently) closed, dodge the busload of Korean tourists and the sportbikers who run up and down Angeles Crest, and go a bit north. There are lots of places to go, and as a newbie I won't try to name any of them besides the one trail we did do: Strawberry Spring/Strawberry Meadow/Strawberry Mountain. A short little hike inward, then you can split several different ways. Straight up to Strawberry Mountain, down to Strawberry Meadow, or other ways I'm not too familiar with. Bill lead us down to Strawberry Meadow, a relatively straightforward 4 mile hike except for the zillion flies waiting for us in the meadow. We couldn't quite figure out why Strawberry Peak has any relation to "strawberry" as it didn't look like one to us, nor did we see any strawberries growing over there. Some more experienced hikers we encountered on the way back asked us the same question, I suspect they knew the answer and were just giving us a hard time. *grins* Not a bad way to spend 4 hours. Even if we did get a late start. Forgetting about little things like the shift to daylight savings time... *cough* whoops... Panoramic photos stitched together with Autostitch.
