King's Canyon The big blue room with the yellow ball in the sky. Or, camping for a weekend, unwired! Despite having been to Yosemite several times, I'd never actually gone south into King's Canyon or Sequoia. Morever, it has been several years since I did car camping of any kind... normally when I'm with this group they always seem to do hiking and backpacking rather than car camping. Keith, Kanita, Jay, Taylor, and myself piled into two cars and headed on up. Giant sequoias and open-to-tourist caves are the highlight of this trip. We splashed in one of the rivers, went on a cave tour (damned cool as you can see from the pictures), saw a few waterfalls, etc. One of the real highlights of the trip was the cave tour. The change from outside temperatures to the very stable inside temperature and the total silence inside... we just don't experience that very often. Turning off all the lights and asking us not to speak... wow. It's so simple, but people so rarely experience it. It was fun. I just know I need to go hiking, backpacking, and camping more often. Doesn't have to be anything in particular, I just need to go.
