Barry's 23rd Birthday The weekend plan was pretty packed, but it was supposed to be pretty relaxing. Sleep in on Saturday, go to Barry's birthday dinner and then drinks that evening... then sleep in again and see a movie with Alicia on Sunday. Saturday morning, Billy reminds me that the Susan G. Kaufman BMW Drive for Cancer event is at Beverly Hills BMW that day. Sleep wins out, oops. I meet up with Nick Keezer and go to Fry's in Burbank to go car stereo shopping and meet up with Randy Leaving Burbank to meet up with Alicia, I get stuck in the parking lot called 405. By the time I get to her place, it's almost time to head up to Barry's birthday dinner at Cafe Bizou in Santa Monica. We have no idea what the place is like so we checked-- which was fortunate, or else we wouldn't have changed out of our scrubby clothing! Barry's dinner: turns out it's not a small dinner, but a 20 person dinner, and we're among the first six to show up (Barry and Kim, Eric and Pauline). We wait over an hour before the entire group shows up. Cheston, Fil and Carolyn, Jules and Juliet, Jason, and a bunch of others arrive relatively soon, but Jessica/Brandon/Kevin, Bernier, and Diana lag like crazy. At least Diana had a good excuse, she was stuck in a traffic nightmare on 101! Dinner is very yummy. Alicia and I split baked mushrooms. Veal, pork tenderlion, and salmon are among the orders. The tab isn't too bad for 20-- tick over $500 w/wine. Barry opens his presents, too, which is fun. One of them was a really nice handmade picture/frame-- very cool! The Ben and Jerry's Fishfood ice cream cake was YUMMY... About half the people go home after dinner or do their own thing, while the remaining people eventually meet up at Barry's place before heading over to Intercrew in K-town for drinks. Diana, Fil, Cheston, Kevin, Brandon, Jessica, Kim, Mike, and I get seated. Two kinds of sake, plus lots of Hite beer begin to flow. Lots of fun, although being the only group of Chinese and Taiwanese people in the crowd was probably a little odd. =þ Due to our excessive consumption of alcohol, several party fouls were made and (more) alcohol consumed as a penalty. We collect everyone (including the designated drivers), and it's back to Barry's for a second round of Bicardi 151 shots and some Texas Hold'Em. Bernier did a nice job cleaning up on everyone, while Diana almost gave him a run for his money, and I managed not to embarass myself too badly in 3rd place. (Barry was too passed out to play much...) Wake up the next morning. Cheston, Diana, and I are scattered over the living room til almost noon. Cheston finally takes off, a bit before Barry is alive again. Diana, Kim, Barry, and I head out to Roscoe's to satisfy Diana's craving for chicken and waffles. Yummy. Barry and I contemplate a trip to the shooting range, but instead-- to keep everyone else happy-- we go to Venice beach instead. Try to go, that is. Parking is nowhere to be found, so we change plans, and since Alicia's free again, we crash her place and then grab coffee. Everyone's still tired, so we split up after coffee. Alicia and I go see King Arthur and spend money at Century City, then finally I haul my butt out of West Los Angeles... This was almost as crazy as my birthday last month. It is very good to know we still know how to party. =) (and yes, as you can see from the pictures, we're all still pretty insane, too...)
