UCLA Commencement 2004
Better known as Barry's graduation weekend. Alice, Kevin, Brandon, and a bunch of others graduated as well!
Barry's mom, sister, and grandmother came down to visit-- Barry's grandma flew in from Taiwan!
SEAS commencement was Saturday just after 12noon. This year's weapon of distraction was tortilas rather than beach balls. Very odd. The speaker was pretty decent, though-- HP CEO Carly Fiorina managed a passable speed. Then we were out to explore in Rowland Heights/Hacienda Heights. That night found Barry, Kim, Bernier, and I over at Wiggum's Bar and Grille over in Westwood, where Maloney's used to be. We got a sweet discount thanks to Barry's friend Brian Louie over there.
Next day was dim sum at Harbor Seafood with Barry, Kim, Barry's family, Brandon, and Brandon's mom. Very yummy. Mmmmm... dim sum... mmm... then the Asian Pacific Islander Graduation (APIG) for Barry, Alice, and a couple of others.
APIG this year was surprisingly small. Normally they go for 3 hours or so, and Dickson Plaza is filled to standing room only. This year the seats were maybe 2/3rds full and that's it; we finished in under 2 hours.
No wild parties afterwards-- not for me, anyway-- since work awaited the next day...
