Time for the quarterly potluck at Sophia/Carley/Grace/Tara's place. Special guest: the Tsai's friend Sam from England, visiting Los Angeles to visit and pick up a new laptop. How much money did he save? I don't know, but I gather it must have been pretty substantial to justify a plane ticket.
New board game: Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. I don't know who dug it up from their closet, but it was quite a change from the usual In Pursuit and Taboo; we got to humiliate ourselves with the flaws in our geography knowledge- especially myself!
Plenty of food, plenty of fun, and yes, plenty of digital cameras. Extra, bonus weirdness from Sophia's sister and her friends who came to come party with Sam before he left. The differences between American English and British English were discussed, American-accented Mandarin/Cantonese vs. British-accented Mandarin/Cantonese (as Sophia said, "it just sounds messed up!"), the expected discussion of cultural differences... topped off with economic and political discussion.
Stayed up much too late that night, which made class the next day feel rather hellish, but it was worth it. Next time though, more common sense and more butt-kicking in the board game, so we can have more fun!
