Soan
Sasabune's new restaurant is a much more casual experience than their original sushi place; not sure where the name (Soan) comes from, but the menu is an interesting and mostly tasty blend of Japanese and American.
Omurice and chicken katsu are both very good, a bit more homestyle in execution vs. the trendier places. The egg salad sando aims to be more gourmet than its more famous convenience store counterparts in Japan, and unfortunately only partially succeeds. The egg white filling succeeds, but the milk bread, being lightly toasted (presumably for structural integrity) is a bit odd, and ultimately detracts from the experience.
The open-faced lox sandwich is decidedly not Japanese, the bagel is a bit over-toasted, but it is very pretty and quite tasty. Add in a solid matcha latte and an excellent yuzu sorbet, and the overall experience is pretty successful. They have sushi on the menu as well, maybe next time, although that will likely be sans Chris, since a Chris sighting is almost as rare as a unicorn sighting these days.
