Snow Summit Ski Trip One day trip to Big Bear/Snow Summit. Picked up the rental car (`03 Ford Explorer. Wow! We didn't get stuck with an Asstek!) the night before, got a few hours of sleep, then packed everyone- Barry, Nicole, Sophia, John (Bej), and myself into the car, and left. 2~2.5 hours to Big Bear turned out to be a much better drive than 5 hours to Mammoth for a short trip like this. Got there. Parked. Sophia rented her snowboard, then we boarded the cattle cars from the parking lot to Snow Summit. Picked up lift tickets- lift/lesson/rental packages for three of us... a few of us scrambled to rent our gear and get our lessons... then off to a day of skiing. Nicole was dehydrated and possibility altitude sick halfway through the lesson, so we headed off the mountain to the ski lodge and waited for everyone else, then had lunch... while we were waiting for everyone else, Barry found that the sun was turning what little snow their was to slush and ice. I ran off to catch the last lesson, stood in really long lines at the ski lift while the instructors griped about how long the lines were... then met everyone at the bottom of the beginner slopes to do some more skiing. 5:15ish... stopped. Returned the ski gear, headed back to the parking lot, and drove to Rowland Heights for dinner. Amazingly, I wasn't soaked to the skin from spectacular falls down the mountain- I actually neglected to fall at all! Had dinner, met with Nicole's roommate Verona and her friend, then... well, back to Westwood and then to return the rental car. Definitely a productive day, although Barry wants more snow the next time we go skiing, and I agree!
