To the twits who own cell phones with polyphonic ringers, who leave them at full blast (not just full volume) capable of shattering the eardrums of the entire computer lab, I say... thanks alot, you inconsidering f'ing retards!
Oh well. Class, then time to go home... and still too much work to do. *sigh*

(UCLA vs. USC, 12:30pm kickoff at the Rosebowl. We were hoping we wouldn't lose, and we certainly weren't expecting a win. Anil and a big group left 90 minutes before we did to go tailgate, we were going to meet them there...)
It sucked.
Left at 9:30am, got to Pasadena at 10:15am. Was planning to meet friends and tailgate... but...
We sat in traffic, unable to park until 1:15pm. Missed the first quarter and part of the second. :( Down 21-7 by the time we walked in, I think.
As soon as the score hit 42-7 in the 3rd with only a few minutes left, we left. It wasn't worth spending another 2-3 hours in traffic getting out of the parking lot.
*sob*

Blah. 3 more hours of class, plus an hour for lunch...
I get to feel like a cradlerobber in my classes for the rest of the day, too-- all my remaining classes are GE's filled with 1st and 2nd years. I feel bad hitting on them sometimes! *sigh* hehe... =P

I suppose I should go bitch at the L&S counselors at UCLA, too... to see if I can get some of my Geography major lower-div's for Life Science credit, too. I took Geography 5, don't need it for my major... they way it is now, the class was just a waste of units. =( If I can get it to count for LS credit, that'll make my schedule a lot more flexible...

Wow... this year's Lenoid Meteor Shower is supposed to be one of the last good ones for another 83 years.
Every other time I've been in someplace with a lot less light pollution than Los Angeles, as well as a less-than-full moon to interfere with viewing.
Despite all this, I was quite impressed. Normally over a half-hour I see maybe 5 or 10... just now, I saw 10, maybe 15 (!). Very, very nice. Who knows how many others I missed because my eyes were constantly dazzled from all the light pollution here in LA, or how many more I would have seen had I gone outside 10 minutes earlier- that's about how long I missed the peak by.
Oh, yeah. Twentysomethings play with Legos, too.

Andi made an interesting observation last night when I was talking to him about the new 350Z.
It's that... why isn't it FAST? Two years ago, a 5.8 0-60 and a 14.0 @ 100mph (or close) might be fast. A 5.6 0-60 and 14.0 @ 103mph might be fast.
Hell, by today's standards those are very respectable numbers. But... today's cars have also gotten faster.
The Dodge Neon SRT-4 ($20,000), the Subaru WRX ($24,000)... hell, even the boring family sedans with room for five (Nissan Altima 3.5SE and Nissan Maxima SE, around $25,000), as well as the uber-boring Honda Accord EX V6 coupe too) are all running stock 14 second quarter mile times for less money than many sports cars, such as the 350Z and Porsche Boxster S. All of the cars in this paragraph should run mid-14 quarter miles, stock, and we have plenty of track evidence of the 255hp 6-speed Maxima and other cars here doing 14.1's and 14.2's in the quarter mile, stock.
That's a 0.1 or 0.2, or 0.3 second difference between a "sports car" and a "family sedan." What's wrong with this picture?
Sadly, probably alot, at least as far as enthusiasts are concerned. Granted the 350Z Enthusiast is only $27k or so, not much more than a Maxima or Accord, but where's the performance? Of course it'll out-handle and out-brake the family sedans, but with 32hp and 28lb-ft more than a Maxima SE 6-speed, and ~75lb less weight, why is it not any faster?...?!?!

Guess who got his 350Z Track today. Cheston did. Lucky bastard. =) Man, how I was I was graduated, employed, and had money to burn...
Instead, I still have a year of college to go, I do think I have a good chance at at least one job offer after I graduate, and, well... I still have access to cheap dynodays and stuff, so when I'm busy screwing around with my $20 exhaust modifications (because I can't afford the $300 one), I can still afford to test the stupid thing... yeah, pictures soon!

Oh yeah, sitting in my English 80 class today, the lecture discussion was on A Rose for Emily by Faulkner. Professor Mott was blabbing about something vaguely important, but then asked "so who's read the House of Usher?" Sure, I read it back in high school, and I know I'll be reading it again, so I raised my hand...
... and he was pleased that a bunch of us had read it, so he started asking stuff like "do you remember so and so from the passage?" A while later, the subject has changed back to Faulkner, and every once in a while, someone in class has a response to the prof. This time it's a 2nd year (I think she's a 2nd year) I know, and she blabs on about some other author who I remember reading in high school...
And it occurred to me, again, that I am one of the old farts in the class.
All these first and second years read The Fall Of the House of Usher as juniors or seniors in high school (at my HS, it was juniors), it was only a year or two ago for them, they haven't forgotten everything yet. By comparison, my old, aged, dinosaur-like self... the time difference isn't 1-2 years, it's more like 5-6 years.
It made me feel really, really old the rest of class... and in this case, rest of class = rest of the day, since that was my last 2 hours of class... man... this dinosaur is going to go to bed...

People don't understand how precious of a commodity parking is here in Los Angeles.
That said, I'm probably unjustly pissed off at the loser who stole my parking spot in my apartment building's private garage today... but still. $*_)#!@%!!!! Considering I had just dropped off 2 friends whose car had been towed by LAPD today for being in a 2-hour tow away zone (no, they didn't tell me where they parked, or else I would have reminded them to move)... I wasn't in a good mood to come home to no parking spot.
Spent the last night at Pete and Nick's place. Spent the afternoon playing games, then Pete's friend Spencer arrived from NorCal. Mike, Ravi, and some of Spencer's friends were over too... so we BBQ'ed and stuff. Lots of fun. And Ravi brought fifth (and last) hose clamp they needed for the beer bong...

Last midterm was today... *phew* Still more work to do, of course. The life of a student only breaks between quarters. Weekends are only a brief respite from the daily lectures and readings, even then they're hardly a respite from readings, as one doubtless has to start the next week's readings in advance to preserve what little sleep is available during the week.

Ever feel bad about missing out on a chance to party the night before?
Well, I missed out on two of 'em. Pete and Nick had a party, and so did Alicia and her roommates. I think both parties were mostly about getting people drunk... which didn't excite me...
But, well, dangit... I woke up this afternoon (!) and realized that I have a week of midterms and papers before me. =( I shoulda partied while I had the chance to relieve stress that isn't even here yet. *sigh*
Oh well. Oh yeah, Thursday night's party pictures are up. (heh... yeah... I know, I know, I already partied... =)
