After wrapping things up at the Dubai Airshow, dashed back to American University of Sharjah to grab my things and say goodbye to Rick before heading off. Squeezed in one photo with Rick to prove to the rest of our colleagues at UCLA that yes, Dr. Miller is still alive, then it was time to haul my butt back to the airport.
I'm still not sure why so many flights leave Dubai Airport between midnight and 4:00am; I understand the value of an early morning arrival at the destination, but it makes for some long days and some short sleep. Even a nicely done (because of course it's Dubai) McDonald's for a midnight snack doesn't do much to ease the pain, not with a tasteless Chicken Mac. The Lufthansa lounge is a bit small and not the most comfortable, but considering all the COVID-19 cutbacks it was still pleasant enough, and it was nice to catch a shower before the flight.
Lucked out with a solo "throne" seat on SWISS Air for the flight to Zurich. Pluses, spacious, private. So-so: storage, despite all the space, was not that great. Minuses: in-flight entertainment on this Airbus A330 looked like it was 20 years old, even the fancy in-flight map looked bad because of it.
