New Year's Day
Starting the new year off with dim sum at Atlantic Seafood. Big group and a crowded, loud restaurant with tons of food! Jeff and Joycelyn, Chris, Sue, Ophelia, Christine, plus Carley, Sonho, and Baby Ella!
Board games all afternoon at Christine's afterward. A real round of Takenoko, which was surprisingly fun. The combination of land, farming resources, and eating the resources you farm wasn't too complex (unlike some others) or time intensive, which made for an enjoyable game.
Lantern Festival was even more simple to play, but the scoring is pretty well done. Also a quick-ish game. Wrapped it up with a few rounds of Splendor, which is superficially similar to Dominion but some would say more enjoyable? Collecting resources, victory points, and some automatically triggered events work out well once you understand the handful of quirks to the rules.
Simple dinner at the cafeteria-style Lu's Garden; for those of you longing for the cheap food courts of Hong Kong, this is about as close as it gets in feel! Food was just okay but something about the feel and the bowls of jook with yams is very much a feeling of comfort food. Nom!
