Pi Day
March 14th, aka 3/14, aka Pi Day!
Last year's Pi Day at Marie Callendar's was underwhelming, so this year we went to House of Pies instead. Imagine a classic Los Angeles diner that hasn't changed much aside from brushed stainless steel and some shiny new menus.
It's pretty straightforward diner food for dinner, including salads, denver omelets and chili dogs (and fried chicken, which we skipped). And then-- PIE!!
Tons of pies. Sadly they were all out of ALL of their chocolate pies, lemon meringue, fresh peach, and a few others. My first two choices failed, but they did have pumpkin (tasted just like Thanksgiving!). Kristina went 0-for-2 before giving up and declaring that the nine slices of pie we already had for 8 people would have to be enough.
As far as the pie itself-- pineapple was so-so. The rest were all pretty good. Coconut cream was good even to a non-fan of such pies. Banana cream had massive bananas in it, nom. Pecan was very good, as were both strawberry and strawberry cream cheese pies. Peanut butter was surprising, just like a massive (light) peanut butter cup filling!
