Out with Pearl, Nik, and Amy
Amy and Nik made it into town for a few days, so it seemed like a good opportunity to visit-- and amazingly, they were actually able to meet up with Pearl!
Lunch at SushiStop's new location (aka the former Sushi Mac) for affordable sushi. Skip the regular scallops and get the fancy ones, the crawfish was only okay, but the rest, especially for the money, isn't bad. The seared nigiri offerings were the one exception, as they were very good. Had we known how good, in fact, we might've skipped the rest of the raw fish there (and that's saying something!).
In the evening, we hit Valentino's Pizza (one of the few acceptable "New York style" pizza places in SoCal) on the way to Pearl and Simon's, then got to be some of the first to see Nikolai and Galina's new haircuts. Turns out Pearl got them lion cuts (!) by accident. Oops! (it'll be a good story for them to tell at Pearl and Simon's wedding, tho!)
("them" being Pearl and Simon, not the cats!)
Add in the dim sum that Simon's parents sent down and we had a delicious meal and a good time hanging out. Alicia even made it after work, which was good 'cause we still had two ginormous slices of pizza left!
