The original plan was to go to Bath, but two things killed that plan: first, train tickets had to be during rush hour, and were obscenely expensive. Second, Kim was arriving that afternoon, so I couldn't be back too late. The way it worked out was something like fifty quid an hour for the time I'd be in Bath... too short and too expensive to properly explore it.
Ouch. Oxford and Cambridge were similarly expensive.
Windsor was a lot closer, cheaper, and while not as dramatic to see, Windsor Castle and the town of Eton were still ample to fill a morning.
Made it back to London Paddington just before Kim arrived, trekked over to Sam's office for Kim to leave her bags while we wandered around til Sam got off work, then it was time to meet up with Deirdre and her husband for dinner at Canteen in Southwark. Real fish and chips, yum! We did the classic walk along the south bank of the Thames since Kim had never been to London, then took the ferry back to Greenwich, where we had some amazingly beautiful skies to highlight London.
