Christmas 2007
Back to NorCal for the holidays, including skiing at Sugarbowl and Squaw Valley with the Melins.
The drive up with the Hacketts involved Alan's car being loaded to the gills with stuff, including my ski gear and Alan's guitar. Stopped by Harris Ranch on the way for steak, saw a beautiful Ferrari F430 and some other less expensive but equally interesting cars on I-5.

Drove up to Lake Tahoe the day after Christmas with the Melins. We'd meet the Yees later in Reno, but Jim, Erik, Katie and I crammed into their Mazda Tribute and hit Sugarbowl for a day of skiing. Lots of fun, although the snow wasn't in great shape, nor was it particularly thick.
Peppermill in Reno had surprisingly nice rooms for the price (the suites are gorgeous), the buffet was cheap and decent (Vegas-this-is-not), then off to Squaw Valley the next day for more skiing. Lots of fun and plenty of awesome runs til about 3pm, when it started snowing. Probably made for great powder the next day, but it snowed for the next few days and skiing in a whiteout is not idea. Erik and Katie's dad was easy to spot, at least!
We wandered over to Sierra Trading Post, which was big but not as interesting as I was hoping, as well as one of the other new hotels, where they had awesome bathrooms with very interesting sinks. Erik's dad also did some extra scoping of the local ski shops, much to everyone's surprise. Dinner the second night was at an Italian place inside the Peppermill, where we had the absolute slowest kitchen in the world. My advice: don't go there, especially when they're having a party. Even the bar was slooow.
Back home three days later, then off to Sherry and David's wedding reception for the Bay Area friends. Chopstix in Santa Clara is actually pretty good, my dad recognized the name immediately when I asked about it-- yet strangely, I'd never heard of it.
Stopped by Majed's new house the next day to check out the final result, played Metroid Prime 3... then got up the next morning to head back to Los Angeles with the Hacketts. Had an equally crammed ride back down to LA, dinner at a Pan-African restaurant, and then came home to a broken perimeter door. Weeee.
Not a bad Christmas. =)
