Disney Concert Hall, MOCA, WIRED NextFest
aka Sam's visit, day 8.
Got up early to attempt a tour of the Disney Concert Hall, a visit to MOCA, and then lunch at Grand Central Market. Top it off with WIRED Nextfest at the LA Convention Center, then In-n-out on the way back to the airport...
The planned tour of the Disney Concert Hall was bust, no tours were being offered this weekend. MOCA was also only partially open-- the admission was free at least-- which was a letdown, although we (being the locals) generally aren't impressed with it. Sam says he always seems to find at least one interesting piece in every museum he visits, I wonder which one he liked this time. Grand Central Market, just a block from MOCA, was like a typical crowded market full of stalls. Only they were fixed rather than mobile plastic and corrigutated metal shacks inside a fairly nice warehouse-type building, compared to the dirty concrete structures we're used to seeing in Asia and Mexico. Cool! I didn't go too adventuous on food, maybe next time.
Wired Magazine's NEXTfest was a disappointment. It was more "what's cool for the masses" rather than any real advances in technology being discussed. Quite a few improvements in robotics, wind power, tissue/cell regeneration, and Google's Moon contest were all presented, but it was mostly fluff.
Then Sam packed up, we stopped by In-n-Out on the way to the airport, and he flew off into the sunset. (well, we delivered him to the airport around sunset. Close enough.)
The few pictures at the very end are from Korean BBQ the next day in Gardena with a different set of friends. Billy & Amy, Cheston & Angie, Liang and Dian, Viet, Steve, and a few others were all present.
