Playing with LAME 3.88 and
Playing with LAME 3.88 and RazorLame today for MP3 encoding. Very nice, much better than Audioactive. So many options though, I'll have to continue to tweak it. I didn't do a fair back to back comparison with Audioactive (FhG codec), but a 160kbps/Audioactive file was clearly inferior to a 192kbps/LAME file. Not enough to bother you, but definitely better when you listened for it. If you're listening via a pair of average computer speakers you may have a very hard time telling the difference, but through something a little nicer it was pretty obvious.
